Back in the 1970s Cobham was simply somewhere to park a horse and carriage whilst catching the train to London, a sort of 'park and ride.'<\/p>
For a halfpenny thruppence farthing McShilling, labourers would clean and wax your horse and cart for you whilst you were away shopping for the day.<\/p>
If one did not have sufficient cash to make payment for the cleaning of ones carriage, one could instead opt to make payment by providing the labourers with a Cob-Ham.<\/p>
Hence the name Cobham.<\/p>
A hearty and traditional sandwich made by slicing a corn on the cob in two, and stuffing the middle with a type of luncheon meat, whilst crunchy, the Cob-Ham was poor nutritionally and are no longer accepted as a form of payment in the high street retailers, except in the Post Office.<\/p>

At the time the land was given over to wild flower meadows, a flood plain for the river mole and a Cafe Nero. There was always parking and anyone who wanted to own some land was able to do so freely, simply by asking the local parish nicely and pointing out which bit they might like.<\/p>
<\/p>
If you visit Cobham today, you will notice things have changed somewhat in these regards.<\/p>
